MERRY Wives is a group of ladies who meet fortnightly on a Tuesday evening at the Methodist church in Alcester where we usually start at 8pm. The bookings secretaries organise an interesting and diverse schedule of entertainment which often takes the form of a good speaker. Everyone is welcome to our meetings and we look forward to seeing you all soon to join us in a couple of hours of quality entertainment.

THE November meeting attracted a large audience as members welcomed three members of the Alcester Railway Circle. Led by Rev David Capron, they each conveyed a lifelong enthusiasm for steam trains, stations, signal boxes and railway history, through slides and story-telling.

THE first meeting of the month was devoted to an absorbing talk by Robert Wooldridge who represents the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

THE talk on November 6 entitled, ‘Western Front Association’ was given by David Fox who is a member of that organisation.

AT our October meeting Bernard Pumfrey gave an illustrated talk on ‘The Historic Heart of England –Warwickshire’. He described the county as being divided geographically by the River Avon, and into areas of sandstone and clay. Warwickshire also includes parts of the Cotswolds.

THE designated speaker for November 5 was unfortunately ill but Mrs Margaret Rowley who was booked for next February very kindly agreed to bring her talk on the Droitwich canal forward and came instead. And what a treat she was.

The November meeting featured a display of floral excellence by Sonia Buesing of Alcester Flowers. Since few of the members were floral artists, they were very impressed by the expertise on show. Sonia made a total of seven arrangements, varying from a fresh modern display of green flowers to a gorgeous table centre of nearly a metre long.
