REDDITCH United manager Liam McDonald believes his side can take great heart from a battling draw against St Neots.

The Reds recorded their third straight tie after they were pegged back by their big-spending rivals from Cambridgeshire.

With Monday’s home clash against Kettering postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, they were denied a chance to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games.

United will be looking to increase their fine record when they welcome Paulton on Saturday (3pm ko) and Frome on Monday (7.45pm ko).

McDonald said: “I think it’s a point gained. It was frustrating we didn’t win but I was happy enough.

“St Neots are a side who play percentages and are very resilient so when the rain picked up and the wind started to blow it played to their strengths.

“When the conditions are like that it’s easy to switch off for a moment and we did that and they scored.

"I can’t be too hard on the lads, I know how hard it is to play in that sort of weather.

“We’ve been very good at the back but the three goals we’ve conceded in the last five games have been soft and we need to work on that.”

Before last night’s round of games, Redditch were third in the Southern League Premier, boasting 38 points.

They were level with Leamington but Poole are starting to pull away from the chasing pack.

The manager added: “Hungerford is never an easy place to get something from.

“Biggleswade were top of the table earlier in the season and St Neots have a very big budget and I am happy with the draws.

“We’ve got Frome and Paulton this weekend and hopefully we can pick up back-to-back wins.

“We’ve also got Leamington, Chesham and Poole to come to us as well and they know it’s not going to be easy at all.”

McDonald admitted he is looking at different transfer targets after deciding not to pursue several options.

He had been interested in signing Biggleswade’s Sam Merson but had a change in heart because the attacker lived too far away.

But the manager though has not given up bolstering his squad as they head into the Christmas fixtures.

He said: “I had looked at several players but they’ve got to be right for us.

“The attitude has to be right and they have to be local as well.

“It’s no good if they live too far away and can only play on match days, they have to be able to train for us.

“I didn’t have that feeling in my guts that tells me I was making a correct signing but I will still be looking around to see if we can strengthen.”
