REDDITCH United led twice but had to make do with a share of the spoils against dogged Bishop's Stortford.

The Reds took an early lead on four minutes with a quick break from a Stortford corner as the Southern League Premier Division's leading scorer Dior Angus guided in from an acute angle.

Angus could have had his second on 16 minutes but he put his shot just wide of the goal as Redditch continued to put pressure on their visitors.

However, Darren Byfield’s men were made to pay for not increasing their lead on 40 minutes when some solid build-up play found Dipo Akinyemi to cut inside from the edge of the area and find the far corner of the net.

United restored their lead just before the hour mark when a corner was powerfully headed home by centre-back Orrin Pendley and it looked like they would kick on from there.

Undeterred, the visitors hung tough and were level again on 70 minutes when Paul Apostolopoulous turned the ball into his own net.

Angus should have won the game with eight minutes to play but could not convert from a goal-mouth scramble having had three chances to net.

The result leaves Redditch seventh in the table and their midweek match at Slough Town is off due to the Rebels being involved in an FA Trophy replay. Next up is a trip to high-flying King's Lynn Town on Saturday (3pm). Redditch United: Ross 5, Wright 5 (Apostolpoulos, 65, 6), Fox 6, Mailancol 5, Simpson 5, Pendley 7, Thanoj 6, Jackman 7, ANGUS 8*, Sammons 5, De Veiga Monteiro 6 (Dunkley, 75). Unused subs: Weir-Daley, Thomas, Stares.
