REDDITCH United boss Darren Byfield has ordered his strikers to rediscover their ruthless streak in front of goal and halt his side's six-game winless run.

Wasteful Reds again suffered from a lack of cutting edge when losing 2-1 at Royston Town last Saturday.

It was the same story for Byfield's men who drop to ninth in the Southern Premier League.

Redditch had been on the front foot for most of the first half and took a deserved lead through Spencer Weir-Daley three minutes prior to the interval.

Royston didn't have to wait so long for their breakthrough, though, notching the leveller within seconds of the restart when Martel Powell rifled in from the corner of the six-yard box.

Scott Bridges then struck what proved to be the winner on the hour with late openings going begging for United during the latter stages.

Byfield said: "It's the same story again. Anyone who sees us knows the performances are good but we have to start taking our chances.

"It was a poor second half performance from us but we have still had the opportunities.

"We have to start putting the ball in the back of the net now, it's as simple as that.

"I said last week that it was maybe a formation issue, but I was wrong on that. Whatever formation we play we still create chances. It's a personnel issue and individuals need to stand up again and put the chances away."

Byfield admits United have been too reliant on his strikers to find the back of the net this term but wants them to thrive under that pressure.

He added: "Strikers are always under pressure to get the goals but that is why they always cost the most money.

"As a forward you have to thrive on that pressure and put the ball in the net. We now need to be more ruthless with two massive games coming up."

Reds have back-to-back home games ahead as Frome Town visit the Trico this Tuesday before Bishops Stortford visit on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Byfield has brought in striker Tristian Dunkley and welcomed back Danico Johnson to add competition to a forward line hit by the loss of Vinny Mukendi with a season-ending injury.

However, the manager says he is still in the hunt for more attackers to help support topscorers Spencer Weir-Daly and Dior Angus heading into the second half of the campaign.
