ALCESTER Town lost interest in this season's Les James Cup after being eclipsed 3-0 by higher ranked Midland League Division Two side Droitwich Spa.

That was after Alcester made an awful start, going 1-0 down within two minutes of the kick-off when Bridges brought down a cross in superb style before slotting home.

Bridges then bagged his second goal when he closed down an attempted clearance from Turner to make it 2-0.

The game became stretched in the second half as Alcester pushed forward when trying to get back into the game with Marston, Hall and Ward all going close with half chances.

Will Beach impressed as he continually caused problems but it proved to no avail as Droitwich wrapped up the tie with a third goal following a free header in the six yard box.

Alcester manager Danny Janes said: "I thought we played some good football at times and I'm disappointed with the goals we gave away as they all came from a lack of organisation and individual errors.

"We talked about not giving soft goals away and then gave Droitwich two goals in the first 10 minutes - but I was delighted with the way the team responded after that."

Janes also singled out the contribution made by Jamie Bailey who played his first game in Saturday football for two years.

Janes added: "He's a real credit to the condition in which he keeps himself. in the first half he was a real threat, but in the second half, we didn't get the ball to him often enough. He can be a big player for us and I hope he commits for the rest of the season."

Alcester Town have a local derby on their hands this Saturday when they make the short trip to Inkberrow in a Midland League Division Three fixture.
