STUBBORN resistance secured bottom side Studley a well-deserved draw against Aston Manor in the Warwickshire Premier Division.

Having suffered a string of defeats this season Studley appeared to be heading for another heavy reverse after Aston Manor piled on the runs to reach 286 for five when batting first.

Shaun Findlay struck 134 while David Yeend kept him company on 77 not out as the Studley bowling attack toiled - but it didn't effect strike bowler Luke Deeprose who ripped out figures of four for 61.

But in reply, Studley's batting held firm in the face of some hostile bowling by former Warwickshire player Recardo Gordon.

Chris Perrins cracked 66 not out and Jack Williams proved equally steadfast on 54 not out as Studley closed on 211 for two.

Studley skipper Andy Rhodes said: "It's been a tough start to the season as we've lost a number of players from last term including long serving Brandon Miller who has returned home to South Africa.

"But this time, the batsmen did what they are supposed to do and dug-in. In fact the top four played really well and hopefully this will give everyone some confidence going into our next game.

"Apart from players leaving, we've also suffered with injuries.

"Normally I would open the bowling with Stuart Harris, but we've both been struggling with injuries and Stuart wasn't even able to play against Aston Manor.

"Luke Deeprose usually comes on as first change, but he asked if he could open the bowling. I think he wanted to prove a point but he did really well bowling on the sharp end of quick.

"In fact I think he bowled quicker than Recardo Gordon."

Studley bid to build on this improvement when they visit Hampton and Solihull this Saturday.
