REDDITCH Entaco were reduced to their first home defeat of the season when they suffered a 32 run reverse against early leaders Cookley in Worcestershire County League Division One.

In what proved to be a low scoring contest, Redditch skipper Russell Southwick won the toss and inserted Cookley to bat first.

The move appeared to be working a treat as pace bowlers Noman Chaudhry and Waqas Ali quickly reduced Cookley to 30 for five.

Credit to Cookley who recovered thanks to the efforts of Paul Thomas and Adam Nicholls.

It was Nicholls who led the way with a fine 50 while Thomas added 27 as Cookley managed to reach 171 all out off exactly 50 overs, Chaudhry taking four for 36, Waqas two for 43 and Ghulam Moyhuddin two for 47.

The Kingfishers made a confident start in reply and reached 34 before losing Mason lbw for seven.

The big wickets of Rizwan Chaundhry, Russell Southwick and Brandon Weal soon followed as Redditch were reduced to 78 for six, experienced Gary Mills causing the early damage by taking three for 29 before Danny Soley snapped up four for 24.

Haris Ali then added some stability to the innings when hitting a well compiled 36, but Redditch were finally removed for 139 in the 47th over.

Redditch bid to bounce straight back this Saturday when they travel to face a Droitwich side who have yet to register a win this season.
