Redditch United 1 King’s Lynn Town 1

GURJIT Singh’s last-gasp goal saw Redditch United snatch an unlikely point from a flat performance against King’s Lynn.

United looked out of sorts but crucially only conceded from Toby Hilliard’s smart turn and shot with 76 minutes played before scrambling home an equaliser in the fourth minute of injury time.

Reds boss Darren Byfield made two changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Banbury United on Boxing Day. Duane Courtney donned the captain’s armband with Reece Hales also lining up in place of Eli Bako and the departed Ahmed Ali.

There was precious little goalmouth action from the outset with King’s Lynn having the upper hand during the first half. Several shots flew in but they were either straight at keeper Brad Catlow or wildly off target.

Jordan Cullinane-Liburd might have landed a sucker punch for Redditch four minutes after half-time but headed over from a Hales corner.

Hilliard drove inside Cullinane-Liburd but lashed high and wide from an acute angle with Stevenson well placed on 56 minutes as the visitors increased the pressure.

Some hesitant defending allowed Hilliard to cut inside in similar fashion on 73 minutes and this time he nudged past Catlow to Kurtis Revan who contrived to fire high and wide with the goal gaping.

King’s Lynn made their pressure count when substitute Leon Mettam waltzed into the box and found Hilliard to swivel and roll inside Catlow’s right post.

The visitors inevitably dropped deeper and while United still looked flat, chances began to arrive.

Courtney headed into the hands of keeper Alex Street with 11 minutes left before Jhai Dhillon had a rather soft penalty appeal waved away.

With the clock ticking down, Singh curled over when well placed and Dhillon forced Street to push away his shot at the near post.

The late surge looked in vain but when Courtney thumped towards goal at the far post, Singh darted in to net from close range and make King’s Lynn pay for their wasteful finishing.
