ALCESTER suffered weather frustration after their Midlands Vase clash at Northampton Mens Own was called off.

The surface was deemed unplayable at 11.30am on Saturday following further rain.

With important league fixtures already scheduled for the next four weekends, there will be a race to get the game rearranged to prevent fixture congestion.

In the meantime, the Kings Coughton outfit turn their attention to an important fortnight which might define their league season as they battle to survive in Midlands Division Four West (South).

They face the two sides currently at the foot of the table, starting with a trip to Atherstone on Saturday (2.15pm KO).

Meanwhile, the annual Boxing Day game saw Alcester's Dads and Lads team tackle the Best of the Rest and edge them out 12-10.

The Dads and Lads squad featured club stalwart Nick O’Connor and his five lads including club captain Jack Green.

Neil Johnson and his three sons; Pete Goddard and his two boys; as well as Mike and Steve Walmsley, club coach Keith Beech and his son Adam and Andy and Kyran Flynn also featured.

The game was refereed by Phil Birks for the opening quarter, with society official Kyran Flynn swapping places with Birks midway through the first half.

On a heavy pitch and with the wind and slope at their back, the Best of the Rest took the lead with a score through Lewis Walker, before Dads and Lads side hit back.

Goddard stepped his way through the Best of the Rest's defence to round off a brilliant score under the posts in his firstgame of senior rugby.

The sides turned around level at half-time 5-5 but in the second half Dads and Lads took control. They went in front when another 17-year-old making his senior debut, Josh O’Connor, broke well before finding his brother George Green up in support who crashed over the line. Green then converted his own try.

The Best of the Rest finished strongest in the final quarter and Josh Eborall scored his side’s second try.

Dads and Lads then closed out the game to claim the win.
