WHITE Hart's Wednesday team won their third match in a row in the Yardley & District League Division Three to climb up to third place in the table.

A six-shot away victory (140-134) at league leaders Maggies was gained with four individual wins for captain Paul Matthews (21-12), Neil Laxton (21-17), John Meredith (21-11) and Dave Kings (21-10).

Redditch Bowls Club played host to a 12-man White Hart team in a special challenge match of Federation Bowls played under Crown Green rules last Sunday afternoon.

The score was 3-3 after the six doubles matches with the White Hart pairs performing well to go into the 12 singles matches all square. Redditch showed their experience to take the match 12-6 with nine singles victories.

With a weakened team on show, they did manage 4 winners - Paul Matthews (21-15), Dave Edwards (21-14), Rob Faulks (21-18) and John Meredith (21-19) and were supported by good efforts from Tim Hollingshead (14-21), Stephen Turner (15-21), Neil Laxton (12 -21) and Sheila Humphreys (17-21), but they will need to gain points from their next four fixtures against the two teams immediately above them in the league to begin a climb out of the relegation places.

The Friday over-60s `B`team suffered a home defeat by Woodlands Park A in Division Three of the Heart of England League.

Four of the six matches were won by two points or less.

Mike Estell (21-20) and Anne Batchelor (21-12) gained points for White Hart, while Sheila Humphreys (19-21), Tom Hawkes (19-21) and Roger Brome all went so close, but could not save them from a narrow 106-116 defeat.

They are currently down in 10th place but have two games in hand on most of the teams in the league, and will be looking to get back to winning ways this week in their home tie with Weoley Castle WMC All the White Hart members would like to wish their fine `team bowler Tony Sugden a speedy recovery following his recent sudden illness.
