DROITWICH Spa continued their remarkable run of pre-season form on Tuesday night as they put four goals past Step 3 Redditch United.

After scoring five in consecutive games at Worcester City (5-5 draw) and Saturday's 5-2 win at Hereford Pegasus, The Saltmen stuck four past a Redditch side three levels above.

Charlie Tilley and Alex Dugmore scored in the first-half to give Droitwich a 2-0 lead at half-time, a lead which could have been more had it not been for the woodwork.

James Lemon then added two in the second-half to wrap up a hugely convincing victory and add to his own tally of goals in pre-season.

Droitwich have now scored 24 goals this month and are now just over a week out from their opening game of the Midland Football League Division One campaign against AFC Hinckley.

Manager Andy Crowther was not present on the touchline on Tuesday evening due to being on holiday, but he was well informed that his side was in their usual good form.

"A great win for us of course against a side like Redditch," he said. "I know Redditch had a fair few trialists so it's a little bit difficult to read too much into it.

"But by all accounts, we performed like we have done all pre-season. We were clinical in front of goal.

"Going forward we are very good, the likes of James (Lemon), Connor (Collins) and Perry (Moss) are pitching in as well as Charlie (Tilley) during pre-season, the goals are coming from everywhere.

"But we are still looking solid defensively, the City game aside when it was a bit of a freak result (5-5 draw)."

Droitwich have had a hugely impressive 12 months, in which they got promoted to Step 6 and came within minutes of potentially securing back-to-back promotions into Step 5 last season.

The heartbreak of conceding a last-minute goal in the play-off final still hurts for all involved but it is now acting as motivation for Droitwich to go one better in 2023/24.

"Last season we surprised ourselves as to how well we adapted to Step 6," added Crowther.

"We are more determined to go a step further after last season, we are going all out to be promoted.

"We have held onto everyone in the squad bar one, but that's it. Everyone else has signed forms and now we look in even better shape.

"We aren't little old Droitwich anymore and I think the only way is up for this club."
