FOOTBALLERS from Redditch could get the chance to represent the town on the national stage later this year.

Leisure Leagues has just announced that it will be staging a free, twice yearly, national tournament and the winners and runners up of the league which is held at Trinity High School on Sundays and Wednesdays will be invited to enter.

Leisure Leagues Senior Manager Chris Rowntree said: "Thousands of team's from all over the UK enjoy playing in our leagues every week, but we know the one thing missing is a national knockout cup. Players want to test themselves against the best, and two teams from Redditch will have the chance to do that."

Chris added that a team from Redditch could even go all the way to the final: "We know there are some really good players at the high school. Competition will be fierce, but who knows?"

The finals days will be held at Birmingham University's state-of-the-art pitches in June, where teams from Leisure Leagues' 200 UK competitions will receive their trophies and get the chance to meet and play each other, with Chris commenting: "It's going to be a brilliant day, and one we are all really looking forward to."

In addition to the chance of national glory new teams joining the Redditch league will receive a free top-quality kit to play in and the usual £25 joining fee has been waived.

Equipment is provided and games are refereed by a United Kingdom Independent Football Federation (UKIFF) qualified official.
