REDDITCH Entaco skipper Waqas Ali believes he has the best bowling attack in Birmingham League Division Three at his disposal this season.

That was after his bowlers came up trumps again this week as Redditch reeled off a 25 run success over Shropshire side Newport.

Forced to defend a below par total of 167, Redditch ripped out their rivals for 142.

Waqas Ali led from the front by returning match-winning figures of six for 36 from 12 hostile overs while pace bowler Ghulam Moyhuddin backed him up with three for 26 off 12 overs.

The skipper said: "Our bowling attack is the best in this division and we can always be confident of bowling sides out.

"This result against Newport puts us nicely in mid-table and gives us three positive results from our last four games.

"In truth, it should have been four wins, but we just couldn't get the last wicket against Lichfield when they still needed 27 runs to win.

"But I still think the side can get better. We didn't put enough runs on the board against Newport and a total of 167 was below what I expected."

Redditch had been rolling along nicely at 85 for three but then sustained a middle order collapse as they slumped to 126 for eight.

But the tail wagged thanks to their overseas wicketkeeper Tim Fitch who fired 36 while Waqas Ali added a priceless 17 not out, taking Redditch to 167.

Newport always threatened to reach their target in reply while Simon Douglas remained at the crease.

Douglas went onto make 80 before Waqas Ali had him trapped lbw, but the batsman lacked support as his side fell short.

Redditch look to continue their winning streak this week when they travel to Worcester side Old Elizabethans.
