Banbury Utd 1, Redditch Utd 3

Redditch romped to victory at a windswept Banbury with leading scorers Dior Angus and Spencer Weir-Daley among the goals yet again.

Substitute Danico Johnson was also on target but the Reds also had midfielder Kevin Monteiro carried off following a hefty challenge midway through the second half.

The Reds made an excellent start and went close to opening the scoring on ten minutes when Andi Thanoj lifted a free-kick over the wall but just over the Banbury target.

Angus then crashed a header wide of the goal before he forced home keeper Jack Harding into a diving save to divert a fierce low drive around the foot of the post.

Redditch’s pressure finally paid off on 24 minutes and it was the excellent Angus with the goal, wrong-footing his marker before curling his shot right-footed beyond the reach of the Banbury keeper.

Seven minutes later it was strike partner Spencer Weir-Daley who hit the target, doubling the visitors lead with a header from an inch perfect Nathan Fox cross.

As half-tine approached, Weir-Daley was close to grabbing his second when he powered a shot just wide after being played in by Thanoj.

The second half lacked the chances of the first but it did bring about Banbury’s first chance when Ricky Johnson lifted the ball over the target from close range.

Driving rain made life tough for both sides but with 15 minutes to go, the Reds made it 3-0 when Angus rolled the ball back for Johnson who fired home from the edge of the area.

Jefferson Louis had the ball in the net on 85 minutes only to have his effort chalked out for offside but he made amends with a late consolation when he turned in a Ravi Shamsi free-kick.
