Farnborough 1, Redditch United 3

Redditch banished the heartbreak of their last gasp midweek defeat at Kettering with this victory over Farnborough.

Goals from new recruit Andi Thanoj, Dior Angus and Spencer Weir-Daley secured the points, lifting the Reds up to fourth in table.

There were chances at both ends in an entertaining start to the game, Pauly Apostolopoulos and Orrin Pendley going close for the Reds.

And with half-time approaching, Vinny Mukendi was inches away from turning in a Thanoj cross at the far post.

The breakthrough came in first half injury time when Farnborough keeper Liam Stone brought Kevin Monteiro down just outside the box earning himself a red card.

Debutant Thanoj stepped up and fired the resulting free-kick past replacement shotstopper Luke Cairney.

It was a similar story in the second period with both teams having opportunities to score.

Solid defending from the Reds and a number of vital saves from Ethan Ross kept the home side at bay while Apostolopoulos had a free-kick which was deflected just wide of the target.

The visitors finally doubled their lead on the hour when Angus showed some neat skills on his way to placing his shot inside the far post for his fourth goal in three games.

Thanoj missed a good chance to add a third soon after when he lifted his shot over the bar after being put in on goal by Angus.

The home side, boosted by that, pushed for a goal to give them hope of snatching something from the game but it took until the 89th minute before Perry Coles finally found a way past United’s on loan Albion keeper.

And there was still time for the visitors to net a third, substitutes Danico Johnson and Weir-Daley combining with the latter turning in a delightful ball into the middle.
