BOSS Julian Workman challenged Redditch Borough to relish their underdogs tag ahead of Saturday’s Birmingham Senior Vase quarter-final showdown at Wednesfield.

Borough head to Wolverhampton to face one of the competitions leading lights with the Cottagers flying high in West Midlands One – an equivalent division to their visitors.

Currently second in the table, Wednesfield have scored a whopping 43 goals in nine straight victories in all competitions and Workman acknowledged his charges would need to attack their task with gusto.

“Wednesfield’s record speaks for itself, we have been handed one of the toughest ties possible but will be giving it our all,” he said.

“Our lads always look forward to matches against the top sides, it is another big test for a team that has developed and achieved a lot over the course of last season and this.

“There is the added spice of it being a last-eight tie and when you get this far, you dare to dream of getting to finals and winning. It is what football at this level is all about.

“But you can only look at one game at a time and we have to respect Wednesfield’s record. They have blown away some decent sides in recent weeks and it would big ask for any team at our level to turn them over at the moment.

“We are underdogs going into but we will ask the lads to play their natural game, enjoy it and come away with no regrets.

“If we do that and perform as well as I know we can, I will be happy. You never know what that kind of performance might bring.”
