TOP of the table Alcester took a break from league rugby only to be dealt their first defeat for three months when suffering a last gasp 24-17 reverse against Bournville Seconds.

Unlucky Alcester lost out to a late interception try which saw saw Bournville's outside centre race the length of the pitch to secure the winning score.

Colts player Harry Adams came in for his first team debut at scrum half but Alcester found themselves trailing 12-5 at half time, winger Lewis Walker accounting for their only points with a well taken try.

Alcester stepped up a gear in the second half and struck with tries from skipper Jack Green and flanker Ben Hope while fly half Max Biltcliffe kicked a conversion to put them 17-12 ahead.

Bournville responded with a try to level the scores before Alcester lost out to a late interception.

Alcester have a local derby on their hands this Saturday when they make the short trip to Claverdon in a Midlands Four West South match.

Prop Jordan Nixon scored a hat-trick of tries as Alcester Seconds beat Woodrush Seconds 39-11.

Matt Ashby added two more tries and a conversion with Matt Alderman and George Green providing further tries while veteran scrum half Paul Taylor added another conversion.

The Seconds entertain Claverdon 2's this Saturday.
