IT WAS smiles all round when Inkberrow Eagles under-10 girls lifted the Mercian Plate shield after a pulsating final against Nunnery Woods Wildcats.

The final was held at Malvern Town FC and large support from both teams ensured it was a great match.

The Wildcats broke the deadlock and opened the scoring after withstanding early Eagles pressure, but Inkberrow went straight on the offensive and soon drew level through Erin Jordan.

The keeper for the Wildcats was having a great game and was keeping her team in it, a looping shot was tipped over the bar but the pressure finally paid off when Jordan scored her second.

In the second half, Nunnery were pushed back but always looked to try and attack on the break and a smart near post save kept Inkberrow in front.

Eagles saw a third goal ruled out for not crossing the line.

Coach Tracie Clements said: “The atmosphere in the stands and going one goal down did not get to them. They worked so hard and deserved the win.”

Inkberrow Eagles are an FA Charter standard club and have three girls teams, who are all from the local area.
