Evesham Utd 1, Redditch Utd 0

THE Reds will be pleased to see the back of their Worcestershire neighbours after Evesham knocked them out of a cup competition for the second year running.

Last season it was the FA Cup where the Robins triumphed. This time it was the FA Trophy and visiting manager Liam McDonald can have no complaints as his side failed to replicate their impressive league form that saw them climb into the Southern League Premier Division top three on the back of their midweek win at Leamington.

The only goal of the game came 20 minutes from time when an Evesham corner was only cleared to the edge of the area where Nick Stanley pounced to rifle a shot past keeper Jose Veiga and into the top right-hand corner.

Such a high class goal was in contrast to a first half of few chances. But with the deadlock broken, both sides looked to add to the scoreline.

Matt Sysum, Ashley Williams and Stanley all went close for the home side but it was striker Lance Smith who was nearest to doubling the lead with a shot that whistled just the wrong side of the post.

For the Reds, Will Richards was just off target with a header while skipper Danny Dubidat was denied by Evesham keeper Kevin Sawyer.

Substitute Cameron Young replaced Jamie Molyneux for the final 15 minutes but the visitors could find no way through as their lower league opponents held on for victory.

Reds: Veiga 6, Haynes 6, Liburd-Cullinane 5, Loveridge 5 (Bunn 26, 5 (Swan 87)), Mutton 6, RICHARDS 7, Baker 6, Carline 7, Dubidat 5, Shearer 5, Molyneux 5 (Young 77). Subs (not used): Compton-Brown, Bridgwater.
