Redditch pull clear from foot of table

REDDITCH kick-started their Worcestershire Division One campaign by defeating fellow strugglers Bromyard by 21 runs on Saturday.

A strong all-round display saw the Kingfishers record their first victory of the summer and also pull themselves off the bottom of the table.

Captain Perry Derrick won the toss and decided to bat first.

They suffered an early setback when Luke Davos (2) was bowled by Ahmed Jamal and Tom Field (2) was ran out.

But Jack Roberson (19) and Russell Southwick (35) steadied the ship, while Yassar Altaf (31) and Francois Mostert (29) also added crucial runs.

Mostert and Thomas Phelan guided Redditch from 113-6 to 181-7, before then eventually made 224 all out.

Bromyard lost wickets at regular intervals in reply, with Mostert (5-46), Derrick (2-73) and Southwick (1-14) taking wickets, with Field and Alftaf running bagging one run out each.

Redditch take on leaders Colwall at home on Saturday (1pm start).

l In Division Two, Feckenham were edged out by six runs.

The Millers won the toss and decided to bowl first, but their opponents recorded an impressive 316 all out.

Matt Henning (4-65), Tom Coulson (2-78) and Michael Ralph (2-78) took the wickets for Feckenham.

Feckenham made a brave attempt to overhaul their challenge target and were bowled out going close.

Andrew Apperley (91) lead the way, while Daniel Bloomer (36), Josh Stacey (44) and Henning (36) all contributed but Feckenham were dismissed for 310 in the 50th over.

Feckenham go to Cookley on Saturday (1pm start).

l Alvechurch and Hopwood also experienced a narrow loss when they were edged out by Division Three rivals Old Vigornians.

After winning the toss and batting first, Church were bowled out for 215 in 50 overs.

Adam Markam-Jones (69) and James Lavender )51) got among the runs. But Vigs replied with 219-9 in the 44th over, Phil Mackie’s 55 not out providing stout resistance to frustrate Hopwood.

Alvechurch tackle Stourport away in the league on Saturday (1pm start).

l In Warwickshire Division One, Studley went down by eight wickets to Ambleside.

Simon Stamenkovic (38) and Dale Edwards (32) top scored as the Bees were kept to 173-9. Michael Balac hit 106 as Ambleside cruised to 174-2.

Studley entertain Atherstone on Saturday (1pm start).
