Rocklands win dramatic final

ROCKLANDS won the Jim Fleeman Cup Final in dramatic circumstances on Thursday evening in front of a crowd of 337.

Dean Hay opened the scoring after only four minutes, with a John Manison penalty equalising for Bell Studley. The remainder of the game was a tense affair with Rocklands doing more of the attacking, but were unable to break down a resolute Bell defence. With Bell missing their last penalty, there was relief and jubilation in equal measure as Dean Hay fired home the winning penalty.

The BRT Terry Cup Final will be between Premier Division Giants Black Horse and Austin Ex Apprentices. Black Horse came from behind to beat Rubery Bridge and Austin had to come from behind twice to beat a battling Rocklands side after extra time. Adam Thornton put the Division Two side ahead with a 30-yard free kick on four minutes, but Austin equalised ten minutes before half time through Reece Maycroft. A Mitchell Sutor header restored the lead in the second half on 68 minutes, but an 80th minute Liam Spink clinical finish put the tie back on level terms and in extra time the Apprentices took control to run out 5-2 winners..

In the Premier Division Two goals from Ricardo Richards as Bartley Green returned to second with a 4-2 win over South Redditch. In Division Two Lodge Park returned to winning ways with a 6-3 win at Evesham United with Sean Maynard grabbing two goals and SHTP recovered from 2-0 down to win 4-2 with Aaron Brough scoring a hat trick. Liam Penn also scored a hat trick as the Division Three programme was completed with Mayfly taking second place after their 4-2 win over Abbeydale, for whom Dave Phelan scored both goals.

In the subsidiary cup, Josh Weatherby scored three as Wychbold RBL beat Kings Heath Concorde 5-1, Luke Egan scored the only goal of the game as Beoley Village defeated Winyates Wanderers, Rubery Legends played their part in another entertaining game fighting back against Park who had taken a 5-0 first half lead with Joe Reeves scoring a hat trick. A late penalty from Dan Sill helped Sporting Club Redditch take all three points at Shakespeare in a 3-2 victory.

The penultimate weekend of the Premier Division title race sees the top four play each other as Church Hill host Austin Ex Apprentices at Studley FC and Black Horse host Bartley Green Sunday at Studley Entaco. Any one of three sides can lift the League Championship as the season promises to reach an exciting climax.
