FORMER Birmingham City striker Geoff Horsfield made his Alvechurch debut but his return to football action was marred as the hosts were beaten 4-2 at Lye Meadow by Tipton Town.

A crowd of 145 descended on the club to watch the ex-West Bromwich Albion and Blues hitman make his bow and they got their reward when the 39-year-old replaced Joe Wright as a second-half substitute.

But the Churchmen tasted defeat in a thrilling Midlands Alliance match.

Wright had scored twice in the first-half but their opponents from the Black Country pegged them back both times, before two more goals after the break ensured the home side’s defeat.

Wright is a striker in-form and he scored in last Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Kirby Muxloe, while Jazz Luckie was also on target.

Mid-table Alvechurch are struggling for consistency at the moment with three wins in last ten matches.

They will be looking to bounce back tomorrow night at home to top half of the table outfit Boldmere St Michaels (7.45pm ko).

Alvechurch then entertain second from bottom Heath Hayes on Saturday (3pm ko).

Meanwhile, the club are looking for two local women’s teams to play Saturdays or Sundays in the 2013-14 season.

The Churchmen are looking to apply for FA Club Charter Standard and next season are also planning to add five new junior teams.

Alvechurch would like hear from any new or existing girls or ladies teams who would like to link-up with.

They may be able to offer a small contribution to fees and kit, while teams will also receive some professional coaching from Birmingham City FC Community Development staff if they wish.

Any teams interested can find out more by emailing alvechurchfc@btinternet.
