IN response to a letter published in Wednesday’s Advertiser of June 24, I would just like to say on behalf of foster carers that Mr Drinkwater may have his facts wrong. I cannot comment with regards to benefits as I know nothing about them, foster carers do not get extra payments at Christmas or birthdays – what they earn goes towards supporting vulnerable children, which we all know in this day and age the safety of these children is so very important.

The money they earn has to go towards school uniforms, monthly clothing allowance, pocket money, presents for both birthdays and Christmas, savings accounts, day trips, school activities and these people work hard to bring some stability in these children’s lives and this is not an easy task, they work hard for their money. If it wasn’t for these people putting themselves out, albeit they get paid for doing it, where would these children be.

People who are on benefits are being paid for doing nothing.

It seems to me that people put benefits ahead of children that need protecting.

Hopefully you will post this letter as I don’t agree with foster carers being slated for working hard to make a difference to these children.
