TRAVELLERS that moved onto Racefield Meadow more than a week ago have refused to leave, despite the threat of court action.

At least five caravans moved onto land near Rowntree Gardens on Saturday, July 15.

Previously, Worcester City Council visited the site to carry out a welfare check and travellers told officers they would be leaving on Friday, July 21.

But they remain on the site today (Monday, July 24) and the council is set to take court action.

A City Council spokesman said: "As the travellers have not moved on, we are commencing court action today.

"We anticipate that the earliest date for a hearing will be this Thursday."
