HUNDREDS turned out in the bright sunshine for fun at the Martley Horticultural Show and Fete.

As well as the beautiful day villagers enjoyed dog shows, croquet, sack races, vintage car displays and more at the traditional event.

The District Horticultural Show also handed out prizes to the winners of its range of vegetable and flowers display competitions at the event, where community spirit is evident.

Tony Lewington, who has been chairman of the show for the last six years, said he is pleased with this year's turnout as all the proceeds are donated to local charities, including Martley Village Hall.

"It went every well, and we were blessed with a very nice day.

"It was a great turn-out too, which is always appreciated.

"All the proceeds go back to local charities, such as the Martley Village Hall, and putting the event back on next year so it's great to see lots of people coming here, as it benefits the village as a whole.

"It's great to see so many families here and younger people, as that is something we have tried to encourage over the last few years.

"All in all it's just nice to see so many people from the village coming here, it shows such a great community and village spirit" he said.

Worcester man Jason Edwards, who attended the event for the first time, said: "This is my first time here, and it's good fun.

"There's a lot to do and there's a nice atmosphere here."

My Lewington said plans will soon be put in place into hosting next year's event.
