AN animal lover has been left heartbroken after three of her cats died as a result of being poisoned in as many days.

Bonnie Papps' two kittens, named Sven and Elsia, and 13 year-old cat Yoda all had to be put down after contracting Anti-Freeze one day after the other.

First nine-month old Sven was poisoned. He returned to his home on Tuesday morning in an ill state, with dilated pupils and was struggling to walk.

He was taken to a Malvern based vet that day, where it was confirmed he had consumed Anti-Freeze.

Mrs Papps left Sven at the vets overnight, but on Wednesday morning Sven's nine-month old sister came home displaying the same symptoms as her sibling.

Elsia was rushed to the same vet. On the drive home, Mrs Papps was called saying Sven had to be put down.

The next evening, on Thursday, Mrs Papps' cat Yoda also came home sick.

Yoda was rushed to the vets, and it was on Thursday that Elsia had to be put down. On Friday, after Yoda had showed signs of recovery, he went downhill and too had to be put down as he couldn't fight the poison in his body.

Mrs Papps, 53, of Upton, says she isn't sure if the cats were poisoned deliberately, but wants to warn other cat owners of the dangers the area now present for cats.

She said: "It's been absolutely heart-breaking, to lose the cats in succession. Telling my grandchildren was the worse part, they were devastated.

"My two dogs miss them dearly too. I have two other cats, but they're not allowed outside during the night now.

"I was there when Yoda was put to sleep, and it broke my heart. It's so cruel that he was showing signs of improvement, but then suddenly died.

"The best thing that can come out of it now is a warning to other cat owners. I just want people to be aware of the dangers for cats in an around the Upton area.

"If a cat has been poisoned by anti-freeze, it makes them seem a little drunk. They are wobbly on their feet and their pupils are very prominent.

"It seems strange that all three of my cats on consecutive nights had been poisoned. If it was deliberate, whoever did it will have to live with themselves."

Police confirmed they received a report of cats being poisoned between April 28 and April 31.

Officers have upped patrols in the town, but it remains unclear whether the poisoning was deliberate or not.
