BROMSGROVE’S MP Sajid Javid attended a charity golf day organised by the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire.

Around 60 golfers participated in the event which raised more than £8,000 for various causes.

The clubs principle charities for this year, Prostate Cancer Awareness and the locally based Worcestershire Special Olympics, which involves parents, relatives and volunteers who give sports training and hold competitions for children and young adults with learning difficulties, will both receive donations.

Dave Foster, President the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire, presented prizes to Jonathan Thompson and Alistair Booth, the team with the highest Stableford score on the day.

Sajid Javid attended the drinks prior to the dinner and met with a number of the players and the sponsors.

He said “I was delighted to meet with some of the players and sponsors on the day. I was impressed by the Club’s plans to raise funds for charitable causes, including a number of our local charities in Bromsgrove. This was an excellent example of Rotary’s well known work to help both surrounding communities and international disasters.”

A large number of local companies helped sponsor the day, many donated prizes for a raffle and auction which was held at a dinner following the competition.

There are 34 members of the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire at present.

They meet Tuesday evenings at Droitwich Golf Club.

Last year the club raised more than £10,000 for charities including, End Polio Now, Philippines Tycoon Disaster Fund, Stroke Association, Dodford Children’s Farm, St Richard’s Hospice and Rigby Hall School.
