MEMBERS of a Redditch exercise group for sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis have celebrated their first year anniversary.

The Multi-Shakers meet every Tuesday from 11-12.30pm and 12.30-2.00pm at Oakenshaw Community Centre for an innovative exercise class for people living with the condition, also know as MS.

One of the first of its kind, the Multi-Shakers class was set up through a unique partnership between Worcestershire Primary Care Trust's Neurological Team and Redditch Council's Sports Development Unit after recognising the need for patients to access appropriate exercise facilities outside of the hospital environment.

A programme was specifically devised for patients that helps sustain regular activity as part of their self-management programme, helping to prevent secondary complications of this progressive and sometimes debilitating condition.

Shireen Budeiri, youth and community sports officer for Redditch Council's Sports Development Unit said: "Everybody involved has been delighted with the results of this programme, especially the participants who constantly notice improvements and show unfaltering commitment to the group and are proud to call it their own."
