REDDITCH Recorder group raised more than £200 to support young carers in Worcestershire, by playing Christmas carols to passers-by at Sainsburys.

The musical group entertained customers of the Redditch store in the lead up to Christmas, spreading festive cheer and raising a whopping £216 which has been donated to Worcestershire Young Carers at YSS, and will be used to fund clubs and activities for young carers in the county throughout 2018.

Neil Phillips, senior keyworker at Worcestershire Young Carers, said: “We are over the moon to have received such brilliant support from the Redditch Recorder group. This is the fifth year the generous group has supported Worcestershire Young Carers and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved for giving up their time to raise money and to all those who donated.

“Thanks to you, we are able to provide regular clubs and activities during school holidays to ensure young carers enjoy a break from their caring responsibilities, and provide them with the opportunity every young person should have access to, the chance to have fun and enjoy time with friends without having to worry about caring for another person.”

Worcestershire Young Carers currently works with more than 400 carers across the county, helping them receive support and enjoy new experiences away from their home environments.
