BUDDING young actors are set to perform His Dark Materials at the Palace Theatre.

Based on the book of the same name by Philip Pullman, which also inspired the film The Golden Compass, the show follows the magical tale of a young girl, Lyra and her mysterious Uncle, Lord Asriel.

The story follows the adventures of Will Parry and Lyra as they journey to The Republic of Heaven meeting some fantastical creatures like witches and armoured polar bears along the way.

Lizzi Tabberer, youth theatre and arts officer, said: "The group have been rehearsing really hard in preparation for putting on this magical, fantastical show. It is a true adventure story with some comedy and soul searching thrown into the mix. It will make a great family evening or afternoon out so book your tickets today."

The show will take place 7.30pm on Thursday, July 14 and Saturday, July 16 with a matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets for the show, suitable for ages 10 plus, cost £12 and £10 for concessions or £35 for a family ticket. There is a booking fee of £1 per ticket up to a maximum of £4.
