ALCESTER and Stratford District Round Table have scooped first place in a national competition.

The group won the Round Table Britain and Ireland National Quiz, after competing against 600 other Round Table teams.

The four-strong group faced Rugby Round Table at the Hollybush Pub, Alcester, on Wednesday, June 8.

Chairman Luke Bull said: "We're delighted to have won this year's quiz."

"Despite tough competition from Rugby, and some difficult questions, we took the win to be crowned National Quiz Champions 2016".

"This victory concludes an excellent year for us as a table where we've again gained new members, contributed to the local community and always enjoyed ourselves along the way."

National vice-president of Round Table, Stephen Grew, took on the role of quiz master for the evening, as well as presenting the winners with the trophy.

Alcester and Stratford District Round Table is part of the international Round Table organisation which offers young men aged 18 to 45 the chance to make new friends, try new experiences, and give something back to their local communities.
