A REDDITCH great grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family.

To mark the occasion, Gladys Taylor, who lives at Southcrest Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant, enjoyed a tea party jointly organised by her family and the care home.

She received many visitors and numerous cards including one from the Queen.

Mrs Taylor, who was born on August 19 1915 in Charles Street has lived in Redditch all her life.

She said when she was younger, she loved to dance.

She was married to her husband, Jack, for 60 years, before he passed away aged 80. Together the pair had four children, Steven, Adrian, Suzanne and Christine.

Mrs Taylor has seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

During her life she had several jobs including working in the needle trade and during the war were she made fly ties, which she said she enjoyed the most.
