A REDDITCH day centre hosted a Memories and Muffins afternoon to mark Dementia Awareness Week.

The idea of the event is to invite people to come along and share memories whilst also enjoying a drink and a muffin.

The event was held in the newly opened centre Valuing Individual People (VIP), based at The Barn, The Craft Centre, Winyates.

The centre is designed to support people living with all types of dementia, sensory impairments and disabilities by encouraging them to take part in activities and hobbies and enjoy remaining strengths and abilities.

It was held on Friday, May 15, and organised by Age UK’s dementia advisor, Carolyn Pym, who has run similar successful events in the past.

The new centre, which is currently appealing for plants to put in a sensory garden, was opened at the beginning of the year by Redditch’s MP Karen Lumley.

Funding for this service can be accessed from Worcestershire County Council. To find out if someone is entitled to funding get in touch with their social worker.
