CHARITY Help for Heroes recently took part in a national fundraiser at Debenhams stores across the UK, including the Redditch branch.

Help for Heroes Worcestershire ran two teams of volunteers at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre store, as well as one in Worcester, and managed to raise a very respectable sum of £2,707.

The Kingfisher team was led by local coordinator Jonathan Brown, supported by county coordinator Ian Baldry and volunteers Tina and Jon Wright, along with Amy and Katy Harrisson who gave up their weekend, to help raise £1,679 for the charity.

Local coordinator Mr Brown said: "Store manager Kerry Makey and all of the staff were so supportive and couldn’t have been more helpful.

"This money will go a long way to helping our wounded service personnel at a time when the conflict in Afghanistan is drawing down but those who have been seriously injured still require ongoing treatment."

As part of the Defence Recovery Programme the donated money will go directly in support of the Individual Recovery Plan, custom designed to suit the dreams and aspirations of an individual soldier who due to the extent of their injuries incurred in either Iraq or Afghanistan, or during training, will no longer be able to remain in the Armed Forces.

Donated money will also support The Battle Back initiative, the Quick Reaction fund, along with the recently established Hidden Wounds psychological support programme.
