A RUMOUR that heart-throb and member of boy band One Direction Harry Styles was born locally has been confirmed, by none other than the pop star's father.

After numerous speculation surrounding the star's birthplace at the end of last year the Bromsgrove Advertiser reported that Harry Styles could very well have been born in Bromsgrove and asked for anyone who could confirm the truth to get in touch.

The rumour had been started by several references to the singer's birth being registered at Bromsgrove Registry Office, in February 1994, which had been listed on several websites and discussed on social networks.

Attempts to clarify the matter, including contacting Harry directly and through his agents, all proved unsuccessful.

But after reading the Advertiser story Harry's father, Des, took to Twitter to clarify his son was in fact born at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

On the social network he wrote: "Funny stuff... Bromsgrove Advertiser says H (Harry) might be born there? "He was born in Redditch, we were there just in time!"

Des also moved to clarify why other websites, including Wikipedia, stated the 19-year-old's birthplace as Evesham - pointing out this was where he and Harry's mum, Anne Cox, lived at the time of his birth.

Harry's birthplace was further confused as being Holmes Chapel, in Cheshire - because this was where the Styles family later moved to.

• Harry Styles auditioned for the X Factor in 2010, but after failing to get through the boys category guest judge Nicole Scherzinger put him together with four others - Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson.

Harry is credited with coming up with the name One Direction, and the group went on to finish third in the series.

After the show the boyband became a global phenomenon with a string of number one hits and international awards.

The 19-year-old is now one of the most followed celebrities on Twitter worldwide, having more than 18 million followers.

Harry has also made headlines in recent years for dating television presenter Caroline Flack, international pop star Taylor Swift and current rumoured flame Kendall Jenner.
