A fresh start for Europe

“BRITAIN is being ever more controlled by Brussels,” says Redditch MP karen Lumley talking about David Cameron’s pledge for an in-out referendum on the European Union.

Mrs Lumley, vice chairman of the Fresh Start for Europe campaign, which offers a way in which Britain can repatriate powers back from the EU, said she welcomed the PM’s recent decision.

The Fresh Start Project (FSP) recently published its Manifesto For Change, which sets out a new relationship for Britain within the EU.

Mrs Lumley said: “I am proud as the vice chairman of the Fresh Start for Europe campaign to support this viable, credible way forward which crucially allows for Britain’s interests to come first and sets out a new relationship for the UK and the EU.

”The manifesto lays out a way in which Britain can work to build on the success of the single market and help Britain to trade more freely and openly with other European countries.”

She added: “Being an integrated member of the single market is what Europe should be about, instead far too often European directives and bureaucracy are damaging UK business and intruding far too deeply into the everyday lives of the UK public.”

The PM has announced he will give the British people a say if the Conservatives win the 2015 General Election - saying democratic support for the EU is “wafer thin.”

Mr Cameron says he wants to negotiate a new settlement from the EU during the next parliament, and if secured he will give people a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to remaining in.

During a speech, he said if he can “achieve a new settlement in which Britain can be comfortable” he would campaign to stay in the EU with his “heart and soul”.
