DISABLED youngsters in Redditch are being invited to join in the fun at a special play scheme.
Fun Day Sunday runs every other Sunday at Hollyoakes Primary School in Redditch, from 10am - 2pm, and is free for families with disabled children living in Worcestershire.
It offers children aged eight to 19 the opportunity to enjoy arts and crafts, trips out and cooking while also providing parents with a short break.
Mia Rochelle, from Headless Cross, has Down’s syndrome and has been attending the group for a year.
Her mum Kay said “Mia loves the group. She’s made lots of friends and I’ve seen her grow in confidence over the last year.
“Mia attends mainstream school so it’s good for her to meet other children with disabilities and take part in activities where she is supported by staff that understand her needs.
“She really looks forward to the group and is always coming home with a big smile on her face and a story to tell from the day.”
She added: “The group is great for me too, knowing that she is enjoying herself and in safe hands means I can use the time to catch up with housework, and then spend quality time with Mia when she comes home.
The scheme is delivered by Core Children’s Services (CCS) in partnership with Worcestershire County Council
Vicky Fry, from CCS said: “The Fun Day Sunday group is proving really popular with both children and parents.
“All CCS staff are trained to meet the personal care needs of every child and all the activities are tailored to the abilities of the children.
“The group is about having fun, making friends and building confidence, while giving parents a much needed short break.”
