CHILDREN across Alcester are being urged to put on their trainers and take part in a free monthly running club, following its relocation from Bidford-on-Avon.

Kids Run Free, a national charity encouraging children to take part in exercise, has launched the running event at Jubilee Fields in St Faiths Road after moving from the nearby village, hoping to attract more families with young children.

Youngsters of all abilities are invited to the sessions on the first Saturday of every month from 9.15am.

There will be individual races for each age category with distances ranging from 50m to 5km.

Martine Verweij, founding chief executive officer of the charity, said: “We believe that children that exercise from as soon as they can walk are more likely to maintain their level of fitness after the age of six-years-old than those of the same age that aren't particularly active during their first years of life.

“With the motto ‘start young, stay fit’ we hope to inspire as many parents to get their kids active and inspire a future generation of healthy adults.”

Parents will need to register their children at kidsrunfree.co.uk and people can volunteer to help organise the event by contacting Justin Mullis at justin@kidsrunfree.co.uk.
