A BEFRIENDING scheme was recently launched in Alcester.

AGE UK Warwickshire, working in partnership with Orbit Heart of England Housing Association, held a second launch of their Befriending Plus service at Malt Mill Lane sheltered and retirement housing on Friday, December 11.

The event was supported by Alcester Mayor Clive Neal-Sturgess, town councillors Mark Cargill and Eric Payne, and Roger Pemberton from Alcester Lions.

The service pairs a volunteer befriender with an older person, who then meet regularly.

The scheme aims to support Orbit customers to make meaningful and lasting connections within their local communities.

Anyone in the area who can spare one to two hours weekly, fortnightly or even monthly is urged to contact befriending project team leader Liz Smeyatsky on 01926 458112, 07788 317919 or by emailing befriending@ageukwarks.org.uk.

There are no special skills or experiences required, just a positive and friendly attitude but appropriate training will be available.
