BIDFORD Bridge is expected to remain closed for two to three months after a heavy duty farm vehicle crashed into it.

The crop spreader hit the side of the medieval bridge in Bidford-on-Avon on Tuesday causing part of it to crumble into the river Avon.

Diversions have been put in place for traffic and bus services have also had to alter their routes though it does remain open to pedestrians.

Bidford Parish Council posted on its Facebook page this morning (Wednesday): "Bidford Bridge - it is expected the bridge will be closed to traffic for about 2 to 3 months, with diversions in place.

"I will know more later today and will update again.

"In the meantime, The Parish Council is making the south end of Monie Meadow available as a temporary parking area to enable you to park and walk to Bidford.

"Please do not park in the winter car park area as this blocks the way for users of the Big Meadow."
