SPORTS stars and television personalities will be visiting the Ragley Estate for a charity cricket match taking place this weekend.

Organiser Harry Dyke, aged 19, a fourth generation fishmonger at Hillers Fish Shop in Dunnington, is aiming to raise £20,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the English Schools Cricket Association Under-15 Bunbury festival.

He was motivated to raise the money through his passion for cricket and in memory of his grandmother who died from leukaemia.

The event will see the biggest celebrity cricket club in the world, The Bunburys, who have raised more than £17 million for charity, compete against Mr Dyke’s team called Harry the Fish XI on Sunday, June 14.

Visitors will be able to meet celebrities and are invited to bring along autograph books. They can also purchase souvenirs, including a Bunbury soft toy bunny mascott which can also be signed.

The Bubury players will include the Weasley twins from Harry Potter, James and Oliver Phelps, and former England and Worcestershire opening batsman David Smith.

Mr Dyke’s team includes Twenty20 England Cricket World Cup winner Ryan Sidebottom, former Aston Villa player and TV pundit Paul Merson and former Worcestershire bowler and former Stratford-upon-Avon Cricket Club captain Chris Whelan.

Mr Dyke said: “It’s very exciting. I want everybody to have a fun day and enjoy themselves.

“It should be a really good day out for everyone.”

Alongside the match, there will also be an auction and items including commemorative bronze and silver 1970 football World Cup coins, a signed Barry Gibb guitar and an England cricket bat up will be up for grabs.

Entertainment including music, laser clay pigeon shooting, the Hillers human fruit machine, raffles, tombola and speeches will be taking place throughout the day.

Last year Mr Dyke held a competition to guess the weight of a huge five-and-a-half foot long halibut which raised £250 for the Abbots Morton Bell Tower Appeal.

Standard tickets are priced at £5 are available to purchase at the event. Gates are open from 2pm for the general public.
