A COMMERATIVE plaque honouring a much-loved Alcester resident has been unveiled during in a special ceremony held in the town hall.

The plague, which re-names the bar inside Alcester Town Hall, pays tribute to Jim Adams, a well known figure in community who served as president of the Alcester branch of the Royal British Legion, councillor on the Alcester Rural District Council and an active member of the court leet.

His widow Sue Adams said: “Jim would have been very pleased to have this bar named after him. The preservation of the town hall was a very important part of his life.

“He was very proud and supportive of all things Alcester.”

He was chair and licensee of the Alcester War Memorial Town Hall committee for 26 years and was a life member of the Rotary Club.

Mike Clark, present chairman of the trust, officiated at the ceremony describing Mr Adams as a remarkable man.

Mr Adams moved to Alcester after serving in the second world war. He purchased 10 acres of pasture land with his first wife Dierdre and they turned it into the Springfield plant nursery.

Together they had two children John and Vikki. They were married until Deirdre’s death from cancer in 1976. He married his second wife Sue in 1995.

Mr Adams founded the Alcester Abbeyfield House, affordable accommodation for men in the town in difficult circumstances. He worked as president of the house for 26 years until its closure.

Jim passed away in his sleep at Warwick Hospital on Sunday, September 15 2013 aged 90.
