OFFICERS from the Court Leet in Alcester are preparing to host the town’s annual Pancake Day races to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

People of all ages are invited to take part in the fun held in High Street on Tuesday, February 17 where 16 races covering six age groups will take place.

Children and adults will begin the race by the post office and they will have to flip their pancakes in order to win. Toddlers will start at the half-way point.

Organisations and businesses will also be forming teams with a separate race held between representatives from the town’s pubs. Last year’s winners The Turks Head are hoping to defend the cup.

The winners will be presented with prizes from the Court Leet’s High Bailiff Vaughan Blake at St Nicholas’ Church.

Children who come in first, second or third place will each receive an Easter egg and all other racers will get a lollipop.

The event will begin at 12.30pm.
