A NEW exhibition of artwork will open inside the Alcester shop, Reddrift.

Starting on Saturday, January 10 and continuing throughout the month, a display of emus and ostriches draw by the Alcester-based figurine and wildlife artist Lynn Spooner will be available to view or purchase at the shop.

The creations will be displayed during the Swan Street store's opening hours, Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm.

“When I was working as a figurine artist at Little Alne a few years ago, I would see ostriches in a nearby field; they were all individuals and quirkily comical,” Mrs Spooner said.

“I started doing a local art class and found myself sketching these amazing birds and couldn’t stop.

“One or two friends started making comments on my paintings like ‘why don’t you paint something other than ostriches,’ so I did – emus.

“I named some of them after some local Alcester people – hopefully not offending them by doing so.”

The shop sells a range of items including hand-knitted and crocheted clothes, individually designed and sewn garments and greeting cards drawn by a local urban sketcher.

Shop owner Chris Nelson said: “Reddrift is so excited to be opening an exhibition by a very talented Alcester artist.

“We are absolutely thrilled to bits to have this opportunity to collaborate with Lynn. Her paintings are quirky, charming and accomplished and it would be wonderful if as many people as possible have the opportunity to come and see them.”

The paintings will be available to buy during the event, costing between £70 and £100.
