ENGLISH sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey will run 100m in the Ragley estate during a unique race against Grant Gallier, the World 25m pole climbing champion.

An Olympic standard running track will be put in place for the contest which will see Grant climbing 80ft up a Douglas Fir climbing pole.

The Track vs Tree challenge will take place at 12.30pm on Saturday, September 20 during the final day of the Husqvarna World Poleclimbing Championships.

The sprinter was awarded BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2005 and has a personal best 100m time of 10.08 seconds.

During this year’s Commonwealth Games, he won silver in the 4 x 100m and at the European championships in Zurich he received bronze in the individual 100m and gold in the 4 x 100m relay.

Grants world record stands at 9.07 seconds.

One Show presenter and sprinter Iwan Thomas MBE will commentate the event before he attempts to scale the pole himself.

This event is taking place as part of APF 2014, the UK’s largest forestry, woodland, trees and timber show.
