ALCESTER took on Nuneaton for their second Division 2 West Midlands Volleyball Association encounter on Friday.
At home and buzzing from their opening day win against Sutton, Alcester were ready to face a more experienced Nuneaton.
The first game saw Nuneaton taking an early lead, 11-2, but through a combination of Jamie Richin's attacking play and David Stokes and Neil Gregg's defensive work Alcester pulled back into it 25-23.
Stokes made changes for the second set. AVC started strongly with superb setting from Tori Rushton providing an opportunity for explosive hitting from Mumtaz Shah and Zaf Iqbal.
But despite an aggressive performance, Nuneaton re-grouped and found their form to take the second set 25-19.
Stokes again re-arranged and along with Gregg put in a strong performance at the net with some defiant blocking and hard hitting but Nuneaton were too well-drilled and took the set 25-16.
AVC took the fourth set to the mark with an outstanding team performance but despite great work from Colin Naismith could not hold off their opponents, losing 25-21.
AVC visit Rugby a week on Sunday.
