A BIRCHENSALE Middle School pupil has won her classmates a day out at the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) after doodling for Google.

Samantha Cohen, 12, was a regional finalist in the "My Britain" competition, which offered young artists the chance to win a trip to California and their doodle appearing on the world wide web for a day.

There were 15,000 entrants from all over the county and 300 regional finalists, including Samantha.

Google, the American internet company, invited the finalists and their classmates to a day at London's Science museum, but it fell through due to the huge numbers involved.

The school saved the say, however, and Samantha's class is going on a trip to the MAC in Birmingham instead for a day of fun, dance and drama with a buffet lunch provided by the school.

Art teacher Margaret Horn said: "We decided that Sam and her classmates deserved more. We are delighted with her success in this huge competition."
