A CRABBS Cross kitchen and bathroom fitter could become the next Will Young if he wins the Rock Idol Final 2006 contest.

Celebrity judges Carrie and David Grant will make up part of the panel at Redditch's Chicago Rock Cafe when Peter Baker, from Jordan's Close, struts his stuff.

He is among 14 other finalists competing on Sunday, November 12 for the prize of a day's vocal coaching in London with the celebrity judges followed by a national tour of the Chicago Rock Cafes nationwide.

The 23-year-old singer, better known in and around Redditch as a pub DJ, said: "I'm really excited to have won my way through to this last stage.

"I will sing Van Morrison's Moon Dance as this secured my place in the final. The song means so much to me and my friends, they said I should sing it again."

Carrie and David said they would be looking for a unique performance which could possibly lead to a career in the industry.

General manager of Redditch's Chicago Rock Cafe Kim Verity said: "We've had the best ever response to this contest and are delighted one of our own contestants has made the final.

"This will be a superb night which will ultimately make someone's dream come true."
