THE countdown to the London 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games continues with the second in Royal Mail’s major series of sporting stamps.

The latest issue, subtitled “On Track for 2012” is part of Royal Mail’s role as an official licensee of the London 2012 Games, and features a fresh set of 10 dynamic images which went on sale on July 27 - exactly two years before the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Among the sports featured are established Olympic sports such as hockey and football, alongside more recent additions including Taekwando and BMX cycling, and three Paralympic sports: rowing, table tennis and goalball.

Philip Parker, head of stamp strategy for Royal Mail, said: “This major series of stamps is creating a fascinating montage of the sports which make the Olympics and Paralympics one of the greatest events on the planet.”

In total, Royal Mail will issue 30 stamps in the run up to the 30th Olympiad and London 2012 Paralympic Games, with each stamp championing an Olympic or Paralympic sport.

Each stamp will feature either the London 2012 Olympic Games or Paralympic Games logo, and the third and final set of stamps will be issued in 2011.

To be in with a chance of winning a set of stamps, just answer the following question: On what date does the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games take place?

Please include your name and address with your entry. Closing date is Wednesday, August 18 at noon. Usual rules apply and the editor's decision is final.
