REDDITCH Vegetarian and Vegan Group is hosting an event next month which will suggest that stock-free, vegan agriculture could solve the world's food problems.

The talk is being presented by Amanda Baker, PR and media officer for the Vegan Society, and will discuss the problems with trying to feed the global human population, which is set to increase from 6.7 billion to 9 billion by 2050. The Vegan Society is suggesting that the demand for agricultural land will increase, and that Western meat and dairy-based diets are unsustainable.

Speaking before the event, Amanda Baker said: "The planet cannot feed us all if we continue to rely on animal farming. The global animal farming industry is a food destruction system. I will outline how stock-free organic farming works, and how it is already proven to be sustainable."

Vegan-Organic farming excludes artificial chemicals, livestock manures and animal remains from slaughterhouses.

Kevin White, from Redditch Vegetarian and Vegan Group, added: "The effects of climate change are exacerbating the problems, threatening food production in some already vulnerable areas of the world. Clearly changes need to be made in order to ensure global food security and provide for those who even now are not being fed."

The talk will take place at St George's Community Hall in Redditch on Wednesday, February 3 from 7.30pm and admission is free.
